Adventure Bike Clinic (1 day non-licensing course)

Total Control® Adventure Bike Clinic

Adventure riding combines all the things you love about motorcycle riding with a level of freedom and adventure you could never experience on the street alone. The Total Control® Adventure Bike Clinic (TC ABC) is the only nationally available adventure bike training that includes BOTH on- and off-road skill development and exercises. The moment your tires hit the dirt, you will unlock a whole new world of exploration, connection with nature, and the mental and physical challenges that only off-road can dish out. And if you think street riding enables you to unplug from the daily grind and refocus, just wait until you reach the end of the pavement and push through loose gravel, mud, inclines and river crossings. This full body challenge will provide a whole new level of satisfaction and self-confidence in the world.

Our TC ABC is a focused, comprehensive training experience taught by professionals with decades of experience helping riders gain comfort and capability controlling their motorcycle in any environment the adventure dictates. When you finish our training, you can go anywhere in the world with confidence knowing you can handle what's ahead.

Whether you ride a lightweight dual-sport, a fully loaded adventure bike, or a supermoto, the techniques we cover will apply, and are grounded in proven, universal riding principles that will build skill, increase safety, and boost confidence wherever the road-or trail-takes you.

Just some of the things you will learn include throttle control, traction management, on and off-road body position, technique for inclines, declines, obstacles and more.

Who Teaches It

Lee Parks has been racing since 1984 and won the 2001 G.M.D. Computrack National Endurance Series Championship in the Lightweight class. He also finished 2nd in the 1994 AMA 125GP national championship in its exhibition year. He spent five years as the editor and chief test rider of Motorcycle Consumer News where he road tested every new street motorcycle available in the U.S. and became one of the top performance-testing journalists in the world. Lee's staff of personally trained instructors are located all over North America and bring with them an impressive list of riding and teaching credentials. Lee is also the president of Lee Parks Design, a motorcycle gear and accessory manufacturer, and the CEO of Compass Kinetics, a motorcycle-specific accident reconstruction, forensics and expert witness services firm.

Quinn Redeker spent years as a Police Motor Officer and instructor, currently traveling around the world competing in police motor competitions, providing demonstrations and clinics to Police Agencies and civilians. He has won over 100 police competitions and is the most successful motor competitor in the world. Quinn grew up on off-road bikes, racing motocross and desert events since the age of 9 and continues racing today. Quinn has ridden, raced, and received world-class instruction in various disciplines of motorcycling; including street, track, trials, motocross and dirt track. For the last 3 years, Quinn has contributed a monthly training article in Rider Magazine titled "Motor School with Quinn Redeker."

Our Advanced Riding Clinics are based on the best-selling book Total Control: High Performance Street Riding Techniques, by Lee Parks.

How It Works

Part of the reason for the program's success is the dynamic classroom training, which includes both theory and application of the TC ABC techniques. By including a basic analysis of vehicular dynamics, riders get a clear understanding of how their actions affect their bikes.

The range portion of the training is done on a skid pad where each of the skills is individually broken down and practiced on pavement for maximum traction and comfort before transitioning over to a dirt section. Working on only one skill at a time and in one environment at a time is the fastest way to make consistent riding improvements. This training methodology enables riders to learn faster and easier than ever before, with minimal risk when we get the inputs wrong from time to time. Equally important, all the TC ABC skills are taught with their direct applications for on- and off-road riding. After all, knowing how to do something is of little value if you don't understand when and where to use it.

Am I Ready for the ABC?

Because of the advanced cornering skills and techniques that we teach during TC ABC, it is important that riders who take this course arrive with a solid riding foundation in order to make the most out of the class. The best way to assess if you are ready for the Advanced Riding Clinic is by responding to these other three important questions:

  • Do you feel confident and relaxed riding through a curvy road, at regular road speeds?
  • Do you feel confident in your ability to swerve around an unexpected obstacle, at road speeds?
  • Do you feel confident in your ability to make your motorcycle stop in a very short distance during an emergency?

If you answered YES to the three questions above, then the Adventure Bike Clinic is for you and you will enjoy it greatly! However, if you responded NO to any of the questions above, you should consider the Intermediate Riding Clinic as the next step in your riding education.

How what you do affects your bike's ability to maintain traction and control.
